This project is dedicated to my Mum and Grandma, the two most important women in my life.

CONTEXT:

Bangladesh's food has been swept under the rug in the British food scene, it is currently not venerated.

8/10 Indian restaurants in the United Kingdom are owned by people of Bengali ethnicity.

If Bengali people are not celebrating their own cuisine and culture, who will?

SYNOPSIS:

Ilish is a celebration of the sacrifices and hardships Bengali women endured to create Bengali cuisine. Refusing to be oppressed by societal standards, Bengali women have patented their influence in modern Bengali culture - a culture which would cease to exist without their perdurable contributions.

Ilish harnesses the human need for belongong and becomes a conduit for connection through an intimate culinary experience. It is an authentic and pedagogic Bengali dining experience that uses graphic design as the main conduit for explication.
